Saw this on Daring Fireball and wanted to link to it as well, great article: on typographers and their hand writing.

Phone Randoms; Emma has moved in [fullstop]

Filed under: Going Out, Kiting, Life, Wake(skate)boarding — Chris Ross @ 7:31 am

I took a photo on my phone this morning and realised I had some random photos that I ought to post.

A number of weeks ago, I went up to Barrow-in-Furness to watch and ride with the various kiters up there. It was a good giggle. This was the view I was presented with when I arrived on the beach:

There was photo of myself taken which I really liked so have re-produced it here:

A couple of weekends ago, Mike, Gaz and myself went to the wakepark. Mike and Gaz learning to kneeboard/wakeboard and myself trying to refine my wake-skate skills. Whilst there, I saw ducks on the lake for the first time. So I took a photo of the ducklings:

Lastly, I got what I think must have been one of those rare eBay bargains. To sort out my low-end on my kite quiver I bought a 14m JN Prima Donna:

Can’t wait to go out and fly it :D

Last night, Emma and myself, spent the evening removing the last of her non-renting-out furniture and last odds-and-sods from her flat. I did the carrying and lifting out to the car and van - she did the cleaning and hoovering. It must have taken about 2-3 hours worth of time each and made that little bit quicker by my building the wardrobe before Emma got home. The result: her flat is empty (apart from the furniture that is staying) and clean and ready for someone to move in. We finished the evening with a Chinese take-away. Tasty. It means that Emma has now completely moved into mythe flat.

Now we need to go to Hove, Brighton and look for places to live.

Quite excited.

Great Parachuting; Moving to the coast

Filed under: Life — Chris Ross @ 3:07 pm

So Emma has managed to rent out her flat.

Which means we can move to Hove. Before that it means that she had to get out her flat. Which means that she needed a place to go. This weekend just gone, a lot of effort was put in and a good result returned, Emma is now living with me. We have another evening of work to do (last odds and sods as well as cleaning) then her flat will be usable by the new tenant.

Our plan next weekend is to go look at some flats and houses in Hove and hopefully find a place to go live in.

Then it is just a case of moving!

When you get married…

Filed under: It's funny. Laugh. — Chris Ross @ 7:30 am

… or at least plan to get married, the conversation of children must crop up. The one thing I can conclude from, both my own conversations and various people when talking to them about kids has been summed up in this xkcd:

Website Compromised

Filed under: Website — Chris Ross @ 9:40 am

darkrock was compromised over the last week.

I noticed that something was up when I tried to do something and noticed that permissions had changed in the directory. Today I got emails from Google saying that darkrock had various spam/porn hidden links in the template. I looked further into things and it appears that at some point yesterday someone uploaded various files like a remote shell.

I am in the process of investigating the problem and have basically reset the website to a clean install getting rid of everything that was here before.

Where did that come from?

Filed under: Life — Chris Ross @ 11:15 am

I like to listen to my music on random, in the hope that there are tracks on there that I’ve not listened to in a absolute age. However, I find it weird that there are times when I listen to tracks I genuinely have no recollection of adding to the library.

For instance, I have some Foo Fighters music, but I’ve not idea where I got the album “There is Nothing Left To Lose” from. But it is currently playing (and I am enjoying it).

On a slightly different note, I bought Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare yesterday. That pushes the number of tracks I’ve bought from iTunes Music Store to 857, 2.5 days of music in 4.13GB of disk space. The most interested statistic is that it equates to 28% of all the music on my computer. Since the launch of the iTMS, I’ve only bought one physical CD (Blues Brothers Soundtrack) and that was only because it wasn’t on the online store.

The most interesting [and slightly scary] fact is that at £0.79 a track, I’ve spent £677.03 on music from them.

Quick: Social fishing: keep it fun by changing the bait often. When the same person bites each time, it can become tedious.
