You can’t go wrong…

Filed under: General — Chris Ross @ 11:14 am

* And good spelling. Can’t go wrong with a sausage sandwich and good spelling.

Fun and Games. If you like that sort of thing.

So following the weekend just gone, you would have hoped that the quiet life would settle in. Well, I guess it wasn’t going to happen.

Monday saw me ambling around to see Bailey and we ended up watching Sideways on DVD. The film was good and heartfelt with you actually feeling for the main character. It also didn’t have the wrap-things-up-nice-and-cleanly-ending that most films seem to subscribe to nowadays which was good. It had implications of there being more of the story but with out the patronising feel that often accompanies such an ending which usually is screaming: “We have no idea if this is going to be popular, but if it does turn out to be popular we will be milking it with 2 sequels as soon as possible”. I also took Allan out for a drive and he worked well, it was enjoyable, even if I did spend 40 minutes giving the inside and clean and running various checks that should have been done.

With Russells birthday rapidly approaching, Bailey, Ant and myself pulled our resources and ended up doing a ’special’ present for him. By special we mean doing a custom present, and in this case it was a re-working of a Brokeback Mountain dvd cover to Brokeback Massage. The general idea being take a gay cowboy film and make it a gay physio film. The idea was realised Tuesday evening and the results can be seen by clicking the afore mentioned links. It took a fair amount of time with Bailey doing the graphic work and myself contributing most of the wording. It was a good laugh of an evening, we also watched Batman Begins at the same time.

Wednesday was Kaiser Chiefs evening. I met Gaz and Jen in town, we had some cheeky drinks and then met Alex and Lauren at the Pitcher and Piano, and fortunately managed to avoid Sarah. We then headed to the NIA, found our general locations for the concert and waited for the events to begin. The concert was, well, to be honest, I’ve seen better. I felt that the venue was just too big and they were having time filling the place with atmosphere. As Alex mentioned last night, they have been singing the same songs for several years and most probably bored and tired of it. I think that if the venue was half the size the concert would have been amazing but utlimately left feeling that it wasn’t that great.

Thursday was Russells birthday which involved going to the OVT, Khanum for a curry and then to Walkaboot (the canadian bar) for drinks. It was a good laugh and enjoyable to watch some people squirm due to various past encounters. Russell found his birthday present hilarious, as did everyone else, which left us patting each other on the back for a job well done.

Yesterday (Friday) involved some cheeky drinks in The Bell with Ant and Alex, then the white horse with the three amigos and joined by Russell, and then up to the Garden House. This was a well calculated move as it involved me having a Fillet Steak with Stilton and Pancetta. It was the tasty. We were joined by Maz, Ro and Lauren and a token random couple. It was good. Afterwards most of us ambled back to Ro’s house for a drink of tea, some chat of a dubious nature and then we headed to our respective abodes.

So. Fun week, looking forward to a slow weekend myself. Might even go and upgrade my phone :)

The Weekend Reunited!

Filed under: Going Out — Chris Ross @ 9:08 am

So, I have already had one person ask me where this post is. So, I thought I would get off my arse and actually write something.

This weekend, in a word, was excellent. It was Frenzy Reunited and lots of people came out to play.

Friday was a nice bit of grub cooked by Ant followed by a visit to The Plough on Harborne high street which was good because there were more than a few old faces that I (and others) hadn’t seen for a long time. I spent the evening mainly chatting rubbish to Alex and Laura who had flown over from Jersey for the weekend. After the pub the group disbanded a little with Alex, Laura, Ant and myself jumping in a taxi and heading into town to Pitcher and Piano. We met up with yet more people who were about for the weekend with the notable appearances played by Fred, Spike and Anna.

Saturday was a roller-coaster ride of social interaction. In the morning Russell, Ant and my good self headed down to the varsity for some breakfast which was well needed. We then went and dropped off Russell and picked up Ro with the aim of jumping into town to meet Anna (a different Anna) and Laura at the train station. As we were early, we popped into Pret a Manger, where the other two grabbed coffee and I decided to drink one of the most disgusting lemon drinks know to human kind. Imagine a glass of water that has been shown a picture of a lemon, well this had less taste than that, more like a glass of water that had been shown an artists impression of a lemon. Yick. Upon the arrival of Laura, we went to Lloyds Bar on Broad street and had some drinks/food. We then headed back to Harborne, did the whole ‘own’ thing and then met up for some more drinks. This is where my photos, which are here start.

We started out at the Varsity. When I say we, there was never one coherent group at any one point through out the evening, so I shall use the word we to describe where I was, I shan’t even try to account for other peoples movements. We grabbed some food and then headed over to the Gun Barrels where every man and his dog and his girlfriend, if she was there, and his mates, and some of her mates where drinking Snakebite and Black. For those of you not familiar with this drink, it is half a pint of larger, half a pint of cider and black current juice/squash and looks like this. Everyone was loving it. The barrels was great fun, it was like being back at University about 3 years ago – not being able to walk anywhere without bumping into someone that you knew. Met Dav, Sash, Grant, Jordan, Jeff plus many others there which was really good to see. We headed up to the Guild and just, well, went a little crazy. Let me rephrase that, I went a little crazy. The evening was really good and I think I can speak for most people when I say we had a really good time. Apart from a few hiccups, sorry Bailey :( , the evening went without issues. Infact I had a really good time. Thanks Cate

Sunday was a slow start, followed by yet another visit to The Plough for breakfast. It was all good, except I definitely thought that the guy cleaning up was a little cheesed off at the invasion his pub was facing which is a little frustrating as I suspect most people had just spent about 10 quid each on breakfast there. Various people went off to catch trains, drive along motorways and generally find their own beds. Alex, Lauren, Russell, Ro and myself, after a cheeky cup of tea, went for an amble to air the system around University and the Vale and finished it off with a cheeky pint in the Green Man. In the evening I went to Dave’s to have an evening of World of Warcraft and general geek chat. It was all good.

All in all, the weekend was really good albeit slightly expensive (but how can you put a smile on happiness). I want to put a special shout out to Ant for doing a lot of the leg work in getting lots of people tickets so that they came up for the weekend, thanks to everyone who made the long trip from various locations and it was good to see everyone.

I drew a house

Filed under: General — Chris Ross @ 12:38 pm

Click here to view my house

This is what they say about me:

Based on the drawing and the 10 answers they gave this is a summary of their personality:
You are sensitive and indecisive at times. You are good at making friends and when the joyful moment arrives, you make the most out of it. You will avoid being alone and seek the company of others whenever possible. You love excitement and create it wherever you go. You are very tidy person. There’s nothing wrong with that because you’re pretty popular among friends. son.

When it comes to love, you shut yourself off. It’s difficult to win your heart because you have decided to keep your feelings deep inside. You see the world as it is, not as you believe it should be.

You are not a romantic person by nature. It also safe to say that others don’t see you as a flirt. You don’t think much about yourself.

Lil’ Chris

This is my dude from Animal Crossing: Wild World, he is called, unsurprisingly, Chris:

When in the game and looking at him on the DS he is about this size:

He is wearing a Guiness t-shirt which I designed :D (Please excuse the blurriness, it is hard to get a decent picture)

Update: (Animated :D )

Help Him Win! For The Men!

This guy is brave. He won his bet though.

Photos from my birthday are here. A post describing said weekend will arrive soon.
